'One of the reasons Google has a very youthful work force and has
been accused of age discrimination is probably related to the
superior price performance of workers straight out of college that
have been socialized into Google.
'These workers (nooglers) have few friends in industry, have few
industry contacts that would lure them away with job offers, have a
larger psychological barrier to leaving Google (all their new
friends work at Google), and college students working at Google
quickly forget how to go grocery shopping and cook, and therefore
become completely dependent upon Google's free meals for their
survival.
'I am not even joking about the free meals engendering dependence; I
have read at least two blog posts from ex-Googlers learning how to
shop for food again. They sounded like they were going through
withdrawal after being taken off the feeding tube.'
