Fedora 29, Xorg & VMware

Latest update:

After upgrading to f29 everywhere, which was an upsetting kerfuffle in its own right (chiefly to this), I got 2 new, unexpected idiocies:

  1. On one old machine w/ f29, Chrome 70 & xorg-x11-drv-ati, Aquarium webgl demo started running at pathetic 17 fps (it used to be 60, I think).

When I converted that very machine to a vmware vm, opened the vm under VMware WS 15 on the same host w/ f29, installed xorg-x11-drv-vmware, open-vm-tools, &c, the demo run at ~50 fps--yes, as a guest inside vmware ws. How this is even possible?

  2. Inside all f29 guests, I suddenly lost the ability to scroll w/ a mouse wheel in Chrome 70 when I move the mouse & simultaneously roll the wheel. Interestingly, it affects no other apps except Chrome & FF.

On all physical machines under f29 the scrolling still works fine, but the combination of 4.18.17 kernel, xorg 1.20.3 & xorg-x11-drv-vmware 13.2.1 broke the most plain feature one can imagine.
